Environmental Protection
Investment in end-of-pipe technologies were unchanged at EUR 29 million.
Investments in integrated work protection fell by 14%, taking the figure from EUR 22 million in 2005 to EUR 19 million in 2006. Spending on production-integrated techniques is a measure of the extent to which production-integrated techniques are able to replace downstream end-of-pipe technologies. We therefore invested a total of EUR 48 million in protective measures and environmental protection in 2006.
Operating expenses for environmental protection (EUR 223 million) were 3 percent lower than in 2005 (EUR 231 million). The decline in both operating expenses and capital expenditures for environmental protection was mainly due to portfolio adjustments in 2006.
Occupational Safety
Zero ambition, zero economic growth, zero results. Zero is not normally a target people aim for. After all, it tends to have negative connotations. However, in occupational safety, things are different: Evonik Degussaa’s aim of zero accidents is definitely a positive target.
Therefore occupational safety at Evonik Degussaa means:
- Even more information and advanced training in occupational safety
- Model function of executives
- The environment and safety agreements as permanent parts of target agreements with employees
- Continued training in the methods of loss control management
- Group-wide reporting and safety controlling
